Minister for Finance T Harish Rao on Wednesday reiterated that Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy has proved himself to be the true successor of former chief minister in combined Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu. He recalled that Naidu was anti-farmer and described practising agriculture as an “exercise in futility.”
The Minister was taking part in a farmers’ convention held at Rythu Vedika at Raghavapur under Siddipet rural mandal. The convention was held to adopt a resolution to condemn the statement by Revanth Reddy that a three-hour power supply to the farm sector was enough.
Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao pointed out that the transformers used to explode and the motors fixed to the pump sets used to burn because of fluctuation of voltage. The Congress leaders, who lacked basic knowledge on agriculture, opposed round-the-clock power supply to the farm sector. “These people lack knowledge on water pumped in an hour to water one acre,” he observed.
The Minister appealed to the farmers to choose between a three-power supply and round-the-clock free power supply. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has been providing round-the-clock power supply to farmers. The government has been spending Rs 12,000 crore every year to provide free power to farmers. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao introduced Rythu Bandhu (input subsidy to farmers) and ensured that Rs 72 crore subsidy was provided to farmers so far in 11 phases. The tanks have been brimming with water even during midsummer as they were being filled with Kaleshwaram water. He recalled that the people from Telangana were forced to migrate to far-off places in search of livelihood. Now in the new State of Telangana, farmworkers from other States were coming to the State for paddy transplantation activity.
