Director General of Police Anjani Kumar said that road safety committees will be set up in all villages as part of road accident prevention measures in the state.
The data explains that compared to 2022 first quarter to 2023 first quarter, deaths are reduced by 16 per cent and grievous injury accidents reduced by 63 per cent.
A video conference was held on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that the number of people who die in road accidents is higher than any other crime. He said that the way to prevent road accidents is to follow the road safety rules and regulations, and special committees will be formed at the village level to create awareness among people on a large scale. Retired teachers, women and representatives of voluntary organisations will be appointed as members in this committee, he said.
He said that the construction of roads in the state has increased significantly and at the same time the number of road accidents and deaths have also increased. It has been suggested that the hot spots of frequent road accidents have already been identified and appropriate preventive measures should be taken in those areas in coordination with the officials of the departments concerned.
The DGP stated that apart from regularly reviewing the areas where road accidents occur, they should also review the performance of 108 vehicles. District Collectors, officials of relevant departments, including roads and buildings have been asked to take measures to prevent road accidents in coordination with voluntary organisations.
He said that 53 per cent of all accidents are caused by two-wheelers. He said that 16 per cent of the total road accidents in the state occur in Cyberabad, 16 per cent in Rachakonda Commissionerate and 12 per cent in Hyderabad Commissionerate. Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Narayanpet, Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli districts have less road accidents. He appreciated that Mulugu district has achieved good results in reducing road accidents by 47 per cent and deaths by 63 per cent.
