Minister for Roads, Buildings, Investments, and Infrastructure, BC Janardhan Reddy, asserted that the state’s development and welfare could progress only under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the NDA coalition government. He made these remarks on Sunday while inaugurating the new BC Gurukula School for Girls in Atmakur, alongside BC Welfare Minister S Savitha, Ministers P Narayana, Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, and NMD Farooq. As part of the event, the ministers distributed clothing to the students and participated in the midday meal. They later interacted with the students in a meeting.
Speaking at a press conference afterwards, Minister Janardhan Reddy emphasised the government’s commitment to restoring Andhra Pradesh’s past glory and attracting industrial investments. He criticised the previous administration for driving industries away to other states.
Referring to the deteriorated condition of roads, the minister blamed the previous leadership of the Roads & Buildings (R&B) department, stating that the poor state of roads had led to ridicule from other states. He highlighted that under CM Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, Rs 1,066 crore was allocated to repair over 21,000 km of roads, most of which were in poor condition. So far, 80% of the work has been completed, with nearly 18,000 km made pothole-free.
Minister Reddy remarked that while contractors once worked with pride, they faced difficulties under the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government. He noted that the previous administration had left unpaid dues of Rs 2,500 crore to institutions like NABARD and NDB for road projects, which were cleared after the current government took charge.
He further announced plans to develop 10,000 km of roads under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Over the next two to three months, roads will be upgraded to double-lane and four-lane highways through various agencies.
Updating on the pothole-free road initiative, Minister Reddy said that in Nellore district alone, 4,000 km of roads had been repaired at a cost of Rs 37 crore. With 80% of the work completed, the remaining repairs, delayed due to rains, would be finished by the end of the month. He assured that there would be no compromise on quality and that action would be taken against officials if necessary.
MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, ZP Chairperson Anam Arunamma, Collector Anand, State TIDCO Chairman V Ajay Kumar, State Waqf Board Chairman Azeez, NUDA Chairman Kotamreddy Srinivasa Reddy, and other local representatives were present.
