Rs 156 cr sought for irrigation projects in Annamayya dist

State Transport, Youth and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy on Saturday met Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu at the latter’s camp office in Vijayawada and submitted a request for Rs 156.60 crore to complete pending works on the HNSS Main Canal in the Pileru Mandipalle Nagireddy Srinivasapuram Reservoir and Adivapille Reservoir. These irrigation projects are expected to significantly benefit farmers and the public in Annamayya district by improving the region’s irrigation and water supply systems.
During the meeting, Minister Ramprasad Reddy highlighted the urgent need to address various water-related issues in the Rayachoti constituency, which includes the six mandals of Rayachoti, Sambepalle, Galiveedu, Lakkireddipalli, Ramapuram, and Chinnamandem. He mentioned the ongoing restoration work of tanks and ponds in these areas and stressed the growing concerns over drinking water shortages. He also called for measures to resolve irrigation challenges faced by local farmers.
Additionally, the Minister requested the completion of the HNSS Main Canal works to ensure a reliable water supply to the Adivapille Reservoir. He urged Minister Ramanaidu to take steps that would help increase water storage in the district, addressing long-term water scarcity issues. Ramprasad Reddy emphasized that coordinated efforts between various state departments are vital for solving the district’s water problems and ensuring sustainable water resources in the future.
