In a major boost to India’s clean energy ambitions, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, laid the foundation stone for ReNew Power’s Rs 22,000 crore Integrated Clean Energy Project at Bethapalli village in Guntakal constituency, Anantapur district.

Describing the project as a landmark moment in the country’s renewable energy journey, Lokesh said it was not merely an industrial initiative, but a bold step towards energy independence, environmental responsibility and economic empowerment. “We are not only powering grids but fuelling aspirations and building a sustainable future,” he said.

The project, being developed by ReNew Power, marks the company’s return to Andhra Pradesh after a six-year hiatus and stands as one of the largest integrated clean energy initiatives in the country. Lokesh expressed gratitude to ReNew Chairman and CEO Sumant Sinha, describing the investment as a strong vote of confidence in the state’s leadership and policy framework.

The Integrated Energy Complex will be developed in two phases. The first phase involves an investment of Rs 7,000 crore and includes 587 MW of solar power, 250 MW of wind energy and 415 MW of battery storage. On completion, the complex will have a total capacity of 1,800 MW of solar, 1 GW of wind power and 2 GW of battery storage.

Lokesh said the project embodied scale, innovation and impact, adding that each megawatt generated would reaffirm Andhra Pradesh’s role as a clean energy pioneer.

The foundation-laying event also reflects the growing success of the state’s Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, launched in October 2024, which has come to be regarded as a national model. Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious target of achieving 72 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029.

In just eight months, the state has attracted significant investments from leading players in the clean energy sector, including Tata Power, NTPC, Vedanta-Serentica, SAEL Industries and Brookfield. Lokesh said these investments were not just numbers but endorsements of the state’s policy clarity, infrastructure strength and long-term vision.

Before 2019, ReNew was among Andhra Pradesh’s largest renewable energy investors. Its return marks renewed investor confidence and the re-emergence of the state as a clean energy hub. Lokesh praised ReNew’s leadership for their trust, calling the project a shared commitment to purpose and progress.

He urged all government departments, elected representatives and local authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the project. “We are not just pouring concrete; we are building a vision for a Cleaner, Greener, Greater Andhra Pradesh,” he concluded.
