Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, with a material component of Rs 223 crore, various village development works will be undertaken in the district, according to State Minister for Housing, Information, and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathi. The minister participated as the chief guest in the ‘gram sabha’ held on Friday at Borvanch in the Nuzividu mandal of Eluru district on Friday.
During the event, the minister mentioned that these village meetings aim to provide financial assurance and sustainable assets to the families of employment guarantee workers. He explained that conducting village meetings simultaneously across 547 village panchayats in the Eluru district will help identify the new works needed for each village and involve the people in the process.
In addition to the ongoing works under the employment guarantee scheme, plans are being developed to carry out works such as rural road construction, drainage systems, crop canal repairs, fruit orchard cultivation, and the construction of shelters for livestock, goats, sheep, and chickens, with the approval of the village people by March 31 next year. He emphasised the need to focus on village development beyond political interests.
He assured that the central government allocates funds for the employment guarantee scheme, and efforts will be made to transparently execute more works in the constituency with these funds. He instructed the officials to issue job cards to all eligible persons without any political bias and ensure that work is provided.
Despite fund shortages, the Chief Minister has decided to develop R&B roads with approximately Rs. 2,000 crores. As part of this, Rs. 20 crores will be used for development efforts in the constituency. The government is taking steps to resolve issues in the villages and develop them into model villages.
During the meeting, the state minister inquired about the issues faced by the villagers. He stated that addressing individual concerns would lead to village development. Village elders requested the development of roads, and drains, the establishment of a school, and the provision of a dedicated building for the Anganwadi.
The event was attended by Janasena leaders Burma Phanibabu, Sarpanch Kootam Vijayaraju, Arikoti Sangeetarao, Merugu Srinu, MPDO Vijaykumar, and others.
