Minister for Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Infrastructure Development, B.C. Janardhan Reddy announced that Rs 38.65 crore has been earmarked for repairing pothole-ridden roads in Palnadu district.
During an inspection of road repair works in Petlurivaripalem village, Narasaraopet mandal, on Monday, the Minister stated that the government aims to make all state roads pothole-free by January 2025.
“The government has undertaken 133 road repair projects across the district, covering 935 kilometres, at a cost of Rs 38.65 crore,” he said. Plans have also been made to repair or reconstruct 3,300 kilometres of roads under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode and to construct four-lane roads, subject to feasibility reports.
He revealed that Rs 861 crore has been allocated for road repairs across the state, with a target to complete the works by Sankranthi. “The government is committed to ensuring pothole-free roads across Andhra Pradesh,” he added.
Criticising the previous YSRCP government, the Minister blamed the poor condition of roads on its failure to reimburse contractors, leaving roads neglected and unrepaired.
The Minister also highlighted ongoing National Highway projects in the state, valued at Rs 76,000 crore.
Later, he inspected road repair works in the Chilakaluripet constituency and interacted with villagers. “Road repair works covering a 19-kilometre stretch in Chilakaluripet are being undertaken at a cost of Rs 5 crore, with 18 projects currently underway,” he noted. Plans to develop the Narasaraopet-Chilakaluripet highway into a four-lane road are also in progress, he added.
