Rs 450 cr worth of paddy procured, 2,000 tarpaulins distributed: DC

District Collector K Vetri Selvi has said that Rs 450 crore worth of paddy produce has been purchased in the district so far from 25,493 farmers.
In a statement here on Monday, the Collector said that in view of the rain threat to the district, the agriculture and civil supply officials were directed to take all steps to ensure that the paddy produce was not damaged due to rain.
The Collector highlighted that 2000 tarpaulins had been distributed to the farmers and another 500 tarpaulins would be distributed to them to save their paddy from being drenched in the rain. The farmers in the district have 1.65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy to sell.
She asserted that necessary instructions were issued to the rice millers on the procurement of paddy from farmers. The Collector stated that 1,95,366 Metric Tonnes of paddy produce had been purchased from 25,493 farmers.
“As of now, 22,826 metric tonnes of paddy produce is ready to be shifted to the rice millers in the district. Moreover, 16,296 metric tonnes of paddy produce is in the agriculture fields and for their protection from rain, 2000 tarpaulins have been distributed and another 500 will be distributed to the farmers,” the Collector revealed, adding that if needed, some more tarpaulins would be distributed to the farmers.
