Rs 5,937 crore urban transformation plan for a signal-free city: Mayor

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has shed light on projects of 2024.
The list of important projects under road-widening worth Rs 200 crore allocated for expanding major roads to Rs 5,937 crore initiative to create a signal-free city, reducing travel time and pollution.
The State government has prioritised urban development in Hyderabad, with a strong focus on improving civic amenities through the GHMC’s 2024 initiatives, said the Mayor.
 She extended gratitude to the corporators and citizens for their cooperation, aiming for greater achievements in 2025.
Road-widening: Rs 200 crore allocated for expanding major roads, including Dabeerpura police station to Nagabowli, Sheikh Fayazkaman to Dabeerpura flyover and Shastripuram Junction to Falaknuma bus depot.
Traffic decongestion: In all, 74 junctions were developed across Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda with an investment of Rs 233 crore. It has issued 14,043 building permits in 2024, generating Rs 815.76 crore for the GHMC. Integrated 38 strategic road projects were taken up under the Hyderabad City Innovative Transparency Infrastructure (H-CITI), with 27 approved and 11 in progress.
 Disbursed Rs 564.61 crore to 5,174 SHGs and set up 1,075 new groups. It has established four training centres under CSR at Chandanagar, Macha Bolarum, Mallepally and Borabanda.  In all, 230 group units and 2,871 individual units were set up under the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme. An amount of Rs 528.51 crore was allocated for constructing 34 stormwater canals over 46.7 km to address flooding.
In the upcoming projects, Rs 149.84 crore was allocated for 224 beautification projects, including artistic murals, park renovations and central median improvements and  
Rs 5,937 crore initiative was taken up to create a signal-free city, reducing travel time and pollution.  
The GHMC completed 37 out of 42 projects, including Bairamalguda flyover. Remaining projects are set for completion by December 2025.  Introduced AI-powered mobile-based facial recognition attendance for sanitation workers, reducing costs and improving accuracy.  
Transition to a live attendance tracking system in GHMC offices resulted in significant savings.
