The representatives of Texport Industries Private Limited met the Minister for Textiles, Tummala Nageswara Rao, at the secretariat to provide an update on the Rs 60 crore apparel manufacturing unit at Peddur in Rajanna Sircilla district. The company, which had long-term business ties with global brands like the Kohl’s, Robert Graham LLC, Tommy Hilfiger, Vans, VG Europe BVB, Nautica, Michael Kors, and Primark, informed the minister that the unit is set to begin production soon.
Textiles Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer said the new unit will generate employment for around 2,000 people with focus on women and will have the capacity to produce 70 lakh garments annually for men, women and children. The company aims to export apparel worth Rs 270 crore per year from this facility.
Tummala Nageswara Rao urged the company to maintain high-quality standards and ensure that locally produced garments remain competitive in the market. He also encouraged efforts to further expand employment opportunities for local women.
Representatives from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) gave a PowerPoint presentation to the Minister, outlining key challenges faced by the state’s six major handloom clusters, that is, Gadwal, Narayanpet, Pochampally, Siddipet, Warangal, and Karimnagar. They said that weavers face marketing gaps, lack of access to new designs, low wages, decreasing interest from younger generations, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient training programs.

Minister Nageswara Rao directed officials to focus on training programs, value addition for handloom products, and collaborations with e-commerce firms to enhance market reach. He also emphasized studying the impact of social media marketing on the handloom sector to explore new promotional strategies.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Shailaja Ramaiyer, Texport Industries representatives, Boston Consulting Group members, and senior officials from the textiles department.
