Collector J Venkata Murali has said that Rs 667 crore has been released for the construction of National Highway A-167A from Vodarevu to Piduguralla, stating the national highway would help a lot to Bapatl district.
District Collector J Venkata Murali, accompanied by Joint Collector B Subba Rao, inspected the Vodarevu-Piduguralla national highway construction works on Wednesday. He inquired the engineers and highway officials about the progress of the works.
The Collector also inspected the construction work of National Highway Bridge over Chirala. He inquired about the 47 KMs long national highway construction work of four lines from Chirala port to Piduguralla. He also examined the national highway road plan and maps and the officials explained to him about the construction process. Later the Collector went to Parchur where he inspected the construction works of the National Highway and Major Bridge across the irrigation canal.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector said that the National Highway under construction would become very important for export of marine and agricultural products from Bapatla district. He stated that funds of Rs 667 crores had been released for the construction of NHA-167A National Highway from the Vodarevu port to Puduguralla. The NHA-167A begins at Vodarevu port in Chirala mandal and ends at Purchur, stating 35 KMs of NHA-167A goes through Bapatla district.
Collector Venkata Murali clarified that 103 hectares of land required for the construction of the national highway in Bapatla district of which 22.30 hectares belonged to the government while 82.70 hectares of land to be acquired. “The NHA-167A to be constructed with four lanes will be 24 meters wide. Steps are being taken to complete this road in the district by the end of December 2025. Four major bridges and six underpasses are being constructed on the highway between Vadarevu and Piduguralla,” the Collector explained.
The Collector directed the engineering officials not to compromise with quality while carrying out works and advised them to maintain high standards and quality in the highway works. He opined that the sales of marine products from the Vodarevu port will increase further from now on in the district, stating that the highway will also help for the export of agricultural products of Bapatla district. The RDO of various mandals and NGA engineers were among those who accompanied the Collector.
