Dr KS Jawahar Reddy, Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, has stated that the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Conservation Society will spend Rs.80 crore for various activities in the State for the year 2023-24 to protect wild animals. He directed the officials concerned to take steps to protect wild animals and provide solar fencing to protect them.
A meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Society was chaired by CS Dr Jawahar Reddy at the Secretariat at Velagapudi on Wednesday. During this meeting, officials discussed the works which were taken up spending Rs.60 crore and those to be taken up spending Rs.80 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, CS Jawahar Reddy said that to feed wild animals, officers should set up special powder plants for protecting them. To ensure drinking water facilities, set up bore wells in the forests, he said.
Before the start of the meeting, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Y Madhusudan Reddy explained various steps taken by the department through a PowerPoint presentation. As many as eight base camps were set up in the State. The department is paying compensation to those who died in the attacks of wild animals, he added.
Also, he said that powder plants would be developed on 75 hectares. He said many camera traps would be arranged in various forests, he added.
IFST Special Secretary Dr PV Chalapathi Rao, Additional PCCF (Wildlife) Shanthi Priya Pandey, AP Biodiversity Board President BMK Reddy and other officials attended the meeting.
