In a significant development, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, has announced a substantial budgetary allocation of Rs 9,138 crore for Railway projects in Andhra Pradesh for the fiscal year 2024-25. The Minister highlighted the substantial increase in budgetary support, revealing that the combined allocation for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States from 2009-14 averaged only Rs 886 crore.
This year’s allocation marks almost a tenfold increase over the average allocation during 2009-14, indicating a sustained commitment to the development of the region’s railway infrastructure.
Additionally, the Union Minister shared that the total investment earmarked for the development of railways in Andhra Pradesh stands at Rs 68,059 crores. He reported the successful completion of 97% electrification in the state and highlighted the significant increase in rail track development, with 246 km being laid annually compared to just 70 km per year from 2009-14. To enhance commuter convenience, 709 Road over Bridges (RoBs) and Road under Bridges (RuBs) have been constructed, further facilitating smooth rail travel.
Minister Vaishnaw also disclosed the establishment of over 109 One Station One Product stalls at railway stations across the state, aimed at promoting local products and businesses. As part of the Amrit Bharat station scheme, approximately 72 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh are undergoing upgrades to improve amenities and services for passengers.
