The singer and songwriter Sahana Naresh has made her comeback with a new English single: Chasin Light, a shimmering indie-pop number reflecting on personal growth, resilience, and the eternal chase for light—both within and without.
Under Papercup Records, Chasin Light is a beautiful synergy between Sahana and multi-instrumentalist and producer Keshav Purushotham, who shares writing and production credits.
With their lush textures, ethereal soundscape and Sahana’s emotive vocals, the song expertly walks the fine line between singer-songwriter sincerity and indie-pop catchiness.
Adding to the conversation about the song, Sahana shares, “Chasin Light is about staying hopeful even when you think you’re lost. It’s a reminder that most of the time, the light that we seek is already within us—we just need to stop for a moment and notice it.”
This deeply reflective yet glossy and optimistic track was mixed by Niklas Schneider and mastered by Steddy. With poetic lyrics and a sound that wants to invite both stillness and movement, Chasin Light will speak to listeners of different ages and from different lands.
This release charts another milestone in Sahana’s ever-evolving musical journey—rooted in Indian classical traditions but unafraid to experiment and expand. Fearless in her genre-fluid exploration, she follows the path of authenticity while carving out a unique voice in the Indian and global independent music landscape. Born and raised in Chennai, Sahana Naresh is a multilingual singer-songwriter and a classically trained Hindustani vocalist. Her genre-fluid style effortlessly combines English, Hindi, and Tamil. Wealthy of heritage and heavily influenced by Carnatic, Kollywood and ’70s rock legends-mainly The Beatles-her musical journey is culturally contextualised by her parents. Whether it is a jam session or a live performance, she lives the music, spontaneously breaking into a song.

Her work, akin to an intimate exchange between friends, explores themes covering being real, breaking free from the shackles of society, and late-night existential thoughts. She has recorded more than 500k Spotify streams, 11 singles, one EP: Shore Out of Reach and seven music videos, shining like a beacon in the indie city. Top tracks are Milky Hands, Vaari Vaari and Shore Out of Reach.
She was shortlisted to appear at the All About Music Conference Indie Showcase held in Mumbai (2022) and at the Deccan Alternative Music Conference (2024), performed alongside these at the Covelong Surf Festival (2023). Her song Raat Kate was licensed as the OST for the Canadian television show Potluck Ladies (2024) and her empowering Tamil debut Naalu Peru for Warner Music India’s Maati show reached over 2 million YouTube views.
