Samantha Ruth Prabhu, will soon be seen in the Indian adaptation of the US show Citadel. The actress, along with her co-star was also present at the global premiere of the American show, which is headlined by Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden. At the event, Samantha interacted with the press and spoke about playing the action-oriented role in the spy thriller. However, it is her accent that has caught Twitterati attention.
In a viral video, Samantha along with Varun Dhawan, can be seen talking about being part of the Indian version of Citadel, and how she’s excited to be joining such a big universe.
But netizens felt that the diva is faking her accent and a user wrote, “What’s with these Indian actors? When they travel to the US, why does a different accent kick in?” Several others also shared that Samantha”s accent is starkly different from her original one.
This is not the first time that an Indian actor has been trolled for his accent at a global platform. Earlier this year, RRR star Jr. NTR, who was present at the prestigious Golden Globes Award was also mocked for his Western accent at the platform.
On the work front, Samantha’s latest release Shaakuntalam has tanked at the box-office. Made at a budget of Rs. 65 crores, Shaakuntalam, which is based on the mythological drama, failed to impress audiences and critics. However, Samantha’s performance in the film was praised by all. The diva will soon be seen alongside Vijay Deverakonda in the Telugu rom-com Kushi. The movie will hit screens on September 1st.
Sam also recently completed 13 years in the movie industry and on the occasion, she took to her social media and wrote, “The older I get… the farther I go. I just feel deeply thankful for all the love and affection…and for each new day and all the good things it brings. So many things that used to affect me… don’t anymore. Just a wave of love and gratitude every day. Thank you.”
