The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, urged the TG government to take strong action against people who, without any journalism experience, are operating YouTube channels and making baseless personal attacks, maligning families and engaging in blackmail.

He expressed concern that such activities are bringing a bad name to bonafide journalists. He also appealed to journalist associations and press clubs to be firm on this issue.

At the same time, he emphasised that it is everyone’s responsibility to encourage YouTube channels that raise public issues and work for the betterment of society. He mentioned that he would soon write a letter to the Chief Minister regarding this matter.

He expressed distress that journalists in the state are facing severe problems and said the state government has the responsibility to support journalists who are barely surviving on meagre salaries.

He asserted that the BJP will come to power in the state this time. Once the BJP comes to power, he promised that houses will be constructed for all journalists, and they will be provided with health cards and insurance. He added that steps will be taken to ensure journalists can live with dignity in society.

During his visit to Vemulawada on Monday, the Union Minister visited the local press club (IJU). He had previously sanctioned Rs 10 lakh from his MPLADS funds for the construction of the press club building. He reviewed the new press club building being constructed with these funds, along with additional donations.

The press club, under the leadership of President Puttapaka Lakshman, honoured Sanjay with traditional shawls.

BJP leader Pratap Ramakrishna, district president Reddaboyina Gopi, Dalit Morcha state leader Kummari Shankar, IJU district president Bandi Santosh and others attended the event.
