Saurabh Bandopadhyaya, Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE), has taken charge as Principal Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer, South Central Railway on Tuesday.
He belongs to the 1990 batch of Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers. He pursued his degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in Bhopal in 1990 and went on to clear UPSC examination the same year in the first attempt at the age of 21 years. He also underwent an appreciation course in Integrated Circuit VLSI design from IIT, Delhi in 1991.
Saurabh is an expert in Railway Signalling Technology, IT enabled services, Mobile Radio Communication, SCADA, Remote Control Systems etc. His present posting comes at a critical juncture when South Central Railway is pioneering new developed signalling technologies such as Kavach, LTE, Automatic Block Signalling, Centralised Train Control systems etc to ensure highest rail safety standards. He is instrumental in commissioning modern signalling systems at 250 stations on Indian Railways, Doubling & Gauge Conversion of 1500 Kms etc.
He was credited with getting the world class railway station of Rani Kamalapati at Bhopal dedicated by the Prime Minister of India, which is the first station developed on PPP mode on Indian Railways. His career, spanning over three decades has seen him handle important assignments including Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Bilaspur Division of South East Central Railway; Chief Signal Engineer on South East Central Railway & Western Railway and as Chief Communication Engineer on Western Railway. Prior to joining South Central Railway, he worked as Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal Division of West Central Railway.
