Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan has stated that the classification of Scheduled Castes (SCs) will not ensure justice for the community.
Addressing the media in Machilipatnam on Friday, he criticised certain political parties for believing that SC classification serves the interests of the community. “Justice cannot be achieved through SC classification. The Constitution does not support such a move, and the Supreme Court’s verdict on the matter is unconstitutional,” he said.
He strongly opposed the Mishra Commission report on SC classification and demanded its abolition. He also termed the Apex Court’s verdict on SC classification a ‘disorder’, alleging that 20 out of 33 Supreme Court judges belong to one community. “If classification is to be implemented, it should first begin with Supreme Court judges,” he remarked.
Chinta Mohan further demanded that national banks allocate 50% of loans to SC, ST, and BC communities, pointing out that despite SCs and STs making up 25% of the population, they receive only a minimal share of loans. He also strongly opposed the imposition of GST on essential commodities.
