The Supreme Court has issued a notice to YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy from Kadapa, following a petition filed by Suneetha, daughter of Viveka, challenging the Telangana High Court’s order granting anticipatory bail in a murder case. The bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and MM Sundresh, issued the notice and scheduled the matter to be listed before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud for further hearing on July 3.

During the hearing, senior advocate Siddharth Luthra informed the bench that this is a unique and grave case that requires immediate intervention. Luthra stated, “The High Court, in a manner akin to a mini trial, passed comments on the merits of the prosecution case, virtually accepting the entire case presented by Respondent No. 1 and disregarding the evidence collected by the CBI.

Consequently, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Respondent No. 1 in a murder case.”

The petition alleges that Avinash Reddy, along with other accused, deliberately tampered with the crime scene in the presence of state police officials and propagated a false narrative that the deceased had died of a heart attack. Moreover, they assert that the accused exerted pressure on the police to prevent the registration of an FIR.

On May 31, the Telangana High Court granted anticipatory bail to MP Avinash Reddy and imposed restrictions, stating that he cannot leave the country without prior permission from the CBI until the investigation is complete. The court ordered the petitioner to cooperate fully with the investigation and appear before the CBI every Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm until the end of June 2023, as well as whenever required for further inquiries.
