Former Indian Cricket team captain Mohammed Azharuddin suffered a setback in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court rejected Azharuddin’s petition challenging the Contempt of Court notices issued by the Telangana High Court.

The Supreme Court made it clear that it will not accept the petition at this stage as it is a request opposing the Contempt of Court notice.

The Nalgonda District Cricket Association (NDCA) had filed a petition in the Telangana High Court requesting to ask the Hyderabad Crick et Association (HCA) to allow the NDCA team in the league matches conducted by HCA.

The HC issued interim orders to the HCA asking it to allow the NDCA team in the league matches of HCA in 2021-22.

At the same time, the NDCA filed another petition in the Telangana High Court requesting the HC to ask the HCA and its President, Mohammed Azharuddin, to allow the NDCA to attend its meetings, matches and tournaments as the NDCA is an affiliated body of the HCA. The High Court gave a verdict in favour of NDCA last year.

The NDCA filed a Contempt of Court petition in the High Court at the beginning of 2023 alleging that the HCA is not obeying the High Court’s 2022 orders. Moreover, the NDCA mentioned in its petition that the then HCA President, Azharuddin, had not permitted the registration of NDCA players.

Responding to the petition, the High Court issued a Contempt of Court notice to Azharuddin in April 2023. Azharuddin filed his response in the HC by appearing personally on June 23.

He informed the HC that he did not take the decision regarding the HC orders unilaterally. However, the High Court issued notices again asking Azharuddin to appear in court on August 4 as it was not satisfied with his response.

Azharuddin approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court notice. But the Supreme Court rejected his petition.
