SC stays sale of Rama Naidu studio land

Must read

The Andhra Pradesh government has faced a setback in the Supreme Court in the Rama Naidu studio land case in Visakhapatnam. The Supreme Court has issued stay orders on the layout and sale of those lands and adjourned the case to March 11. At the same time, notices were issued to the AP government and the respondents. On September 13, 2003, the Supreme Court directed the AP government not to use those lands for any activities except for the purposes specified in the government orders.
In 2003, the then-TDP government allocated 35 acres of land to Rama Naidu studio to be used for film purposes. However, the state government allowed those lands for layouts and for other activities against the coastal regulations.
Vizag East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu filed a petition in the High Court challenging the government orders. After the state high court dismissed the case, he filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

A bench of Justice Abhay S Okha and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan heard the petition filed by Ramakrishna Babu today. The bench asked the counsel for the petitioner. Those lands have been allocated for the construction of a movie studio. Accordingly, the lawyer brought to the notice of the bench that without undertaking any work there, the layout was made and prepared for sale. After hearing the arguments, the court stayed the sale of those lands. It has issued notices to the state government and the respondents asking them to respond before March 11 this year.
