Rambabu Vavilapalli, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) of South Central Railway (SCR), has been honoured with the prestigious Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar. The award was presented to him by Ashwini Vaishnav, the Union Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and IT, during the 69th Railway Week Awards ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Rambabu Vavilapalli was recognised for his bravery, especially during the Budameru flash floods that disrupted train and passenger services at Rayanapadu and Kondapalli stations. Despite the dangerous conditions, Rambabu Vavilapalli led the commercial team through floodwaters to rescue passengers stranded on the Tamil Nadu Express at Rayanapadu. He closely monitored the entire rescue and relief operation, ensuring the safe return of 4,100 stranded passengers to their destinations within 10 hours by arranging special trains, all without any casualties.
In addition to his heroic efforts, he played a key role in helping the Vijayawada Division achieve significant milestones, including surpassing Rs. 5,000 crore in revenue for two consecutive years, 2022-23 and 2023-24. Under his leadership, the division also recorded its highest-ever freight revenue of Rs. 4,000 crore.
