n ”August brought freedom from loans to TG farmers: CM
While India attained Independence in August, the farmers of Telangana got their freedom from debts in the same month after the Congress government waived farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said on Tuesday. July and August are being remembered as the most significant months in the country’s history, the CM said. The government proved its commitment to farmers by waiving debts of Rs 12,000 crore in just 12 days, the Chief Minister said. He said the Telangana government’s waiver of farm loans by allocating a whopping Rs 31,000 crore created a new record in the country’s history. No state in the country has waived such a large amount of loans taken by farmers so far, the CM said. The CM said that political parties usually remember farmers only during elections and lure them with promises.
Today, there are no elections and no political interests behind the waiver of farm loans except safeguarding the interests of farmers. The CM launched the second phase of the farm loan waiver scheme by waiving farm loans up to Rs 1.50 lakh on the Assembly building’s premises on Tuesday. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, ministers and MLAs attended the distribution of cheques to farmers. The Chief Minister announced that the loans of all farmers up to Rs 1.50 lakh will be waived by depositing Rs 6,198 crore in 6.40 lakh farmers bank accounts directly. “My life’s purpose has been fulfilled seeing the happiness on farmers’ faces,” he said. As part of the farm loan waiver scheme, the government waived loans amount up to Rs 1 lakh on July 18. A total of 11 lakh farmers got the farm loan waiver benefit of Rs 6,098 crore. Another Rs 6198 crore was released as the second instalment within 12 days. CPI and BJP MLAs also attended the function along with Congress MLAs. The Chief Minister thanked everyone who attended the function irrespective of party affiliation. The CM reminded that the Congress announced the Farmers Declaration on May 6, 2022, at Warangal and promised to make agriculture a profitable profession. As promised by the Congress, the government brought cheers to the lives of farmers by waiving farm loans after just eight months of coming to power in the state. The CM said that some big companies took loans from banks and cheated banks by declaring themselves bankrupt. In the last 10 years, companies avoided paying back loans of Rs 14 lakh crore to banks while farmers who are feeding the country have been facing difficulties due to lack of remunerative prices and are unable to pay back debts. The Chief Minister said that many farmers committed suicide due to their inability to pay back loans. That is why the Congress promised to waive farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh, the CM said. The Chief Minister also said that the BRS government failed to waive farm loans up to Rs one lakh
