The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against senior IPS officer N Sanjay and others for alleged misappropriation of government funds amounting to Rs 1.75 crore. The FIR, filed by the ACB, cites violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
N Sanjay, formerly the Director General of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response & Fire Services and Additional Director General of Police (CID), is accused of manipulating tender processes and facilitating fraudulent payments during his tenure.
According to allegations claim that the officer awarded a contract for the development and maintenance of the AGNI-NOC portal and related hardware to Sauthrika Technologies & Infra Pvt. Ltd., violating standard procurement procedures. Despite minimal progress on the project, the company received Rs 59.93 lakh within a week of signing the agreement on February 15, 2023.
It is reported that 10 laptops were purchased from the same firm at an exorbitant cost of Rs 17.89 lakh, without calling for tenders or obtaining competitive quotations.
In another case, while serving as Additional Director General, CID, the officer allegedly conspired to award a Rs 1.19 crore contract for conducting SC/ST awareness workshops to a non-existent firm, Kritvyap Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad. The workshops were reportedly conducted by government officials, while the payment was fraudulently made to the company.
The FIR was filed under Sections 13(1)(a) read with 13(2) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with Sections 409, 420, 477A and 120B of the Indian Penal Code. The case was initiated after obtaining government permission under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Deputy Superintendent of Police TVV Pratap Kumar, who filed the complaint, stated that investigations are going on. The case has been registered and further details are awaited.
