Senior journalist and a vernacular TV channel anchor Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police on Monday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women from the Amaravati region during a televised debate.
He was detained at his Hyderabad residence and taken to AP. A case was registered at Thullur Police Station based on a complaint by State Madiga Corporation Director Khambampati Sirisha. Rao, analyst VVR Krishnam Raju, and the TV channel management were booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and relevant IPC sections.
The remarks, allegedly calling Amaravati a “capital of prostitutes”, sparked outrage.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan condemned the comments, calling for accountability and strict action.
