Several colonies in Mancherial Town inundated

Mancherial district, particularly the town, was ravaged by incessant rains. Several colonies in the town were inundated with backwaters from irrigation projects entered them.

Engineers lifted 10 gates of the Kadem project and released flood waters downstream. Over 9 lakh cusecs of surplus water were discharged from the Sripada Yellampalli project into the River Godavari at Gudipet. The flood waters led to Rallavagu inundating several colonies in the town.

Ramanagar, LIC Colony, NTR Colony, Aditya Enclave and a few others were inundated in Macherial town. The officials evacuated 500 families from the colonies and shifted them to relief camps.

The district administration opened 12 relief camps. A toll-free phone 08736-250501 was provided for people to contact in case of emergency.

On Thursday, the heavy inflow of flood water into the Kadem project triggered panic. The engineers were able to open all crest gates and let out the flood water downstream. The people living 12 villages downstream the project and officials heaved a sigh of relief with the flood water receding.
