Shadnagar doctors take out protest march

Must read

In response to the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, doctors in Shadnagar, under the auspices of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), staged a massive protest. The doctors expressed their outrage and deep sorrow over the inhumane act, condemning it as a stark violation of the values that India stands for.
In Shadnagar, doctors took to the streets in a rally from the railway station to the MPDO office, demanding justice for the victim and stringent punishment for the perpetrators. The IMA announced a 24-hour suspension of outpatient (OP) services in solidarity with the protests, with only emergency services remaining operational.
The protesters highlighted the growing threats faced by doctors in India, pointing out that healthcare providers, once revered as ‘Vaidya Narayan’ or healers akin to God, are now at risk of violent attacks. They also criticised the authorities for initially attempting to portray the attack as a suicide, calling for an immediate and transparent investigation.
