Shift people from dilapidated houses, low-lying areas: DC

West Godavari District Collector C Nagarani has directed the officials to evacuate people living in dilapidated houses, sheds, huts and low-lying areas to safer places in view of heavy rains during the next few days.
She told the municipal commissioner and Panchayat Raj officials to visit at the field level to take steps to ensure that there would be no inhibition to the flow of flood water in the irrigation canals.
She also directed them to take measures to prevent the spread of contagious diseases. The sanitation in the rain and flood-affected areas should be efficient, she told the officials.
Stating that the incessant rain will continue for another two days, steps should be taken to provide drinking water to the low-lying areas. The municipal and RWS officials should work in coordination, she said to them. The officials should go door to door to create awareness among the people to prevent diarrhoea, Dengue and typhoid, she ordered the health officials concerned.  
She instructed the irrigation officials to take steps to remove wild plants and creepers from the canals and drains to ensure that the flood water flows without any inhibition. The officials should examine the bunds and embankments and identify the places where there is a scope for breaches, she told the officials.
