Acclaimed Indian actress and musician Shruti Haasan is all set to make her international debut as the lead in the highly anticipated British psychological thriller, The Eye. Directed by Daphne Schmon, the film promises to captivate audiences with its chilling storyline and atmospheric setting. The Eye will be premiering in India as the opening feature of the 5th Wench Film Festival, an event dedicated to celebrating horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films. Founded by Sapna Bhavnani, this festival will run from February 27 to March 2, 2025.
The Eye follows the haunting journey of Diana, played by Shruti Haasan, who travels to a secluded island to scatter the ashes of her late husband, Felix (Mark Rowley). As Diana seeks closure for her loss, her grief soon transforms into intrigue when she encounters the mysterious ‘Evil Eye’ ritual—an ancient and eerie practice that holds the potential to bring Felix back from the dead, but at a disturbing cost.
Set against the breathtaking landscapes of Greece, the film was shot on location in Athens and Corfu, where the natural beauty of the surroundings enhances the eerie and suspenseful atmosphere of the story. The film’s visuals, paired with its gripping narrative, are expected to leave a lasting impact on viewers worldwide.
After its initial screening at the London Independent Film Festival and a showcase at the Greek International Film Festival, The Eye has been generating significant buzz among global audiences. The film’s India premiere at the Wench Film Festival marks a major milestone in its journey, and it is expected to continue to stir excitement as it gains momentum internationally.
Reflecting on her role in the film, Shruti Haasan shared her excitement for working on a psychological thriller—a genre she has always found intriguing. She expressed her enthusiasm for being part of a story that delves deep into human emotions, grief, and the supernatural.
“The opportunity to portray Diana in The Eye has been incredibly exciting for me,” Haasan said. “Psychological thrillers have always fascinated me. This film’s compelling storyline, combined with its top-notch production quality, makes it even more special. What truly stands out, though, is that the film was created under an all-women-led production house. I’m deeply passionate about supporting women in the film industry and this project reflects that commitment.”
Produced by Fingerprint Content, The Eye is not just a captivating psychological thriller, but also represents a new wave of filmmaking focused on sustainability. The film’s production team took significant steps to minimise its environmental footprint during the shoot, setting a precedent for future films that seek to blend creative excellence with eco-conscious practices.
