Telugu folk singer Mangli is set to be booked for violating sound pollution norms and organising a party without obtaining a liquor licence, after celebrating her birthday at Tripura Resorts in Chevella, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

According to police, the party, held on Tuesday midnight was raided by the Rajendranagar SOT and Chevella Police following a tip-off.

Ch Srinivas, DCP, Rajendranagar, told the media: “In the limits of Chevella police station at Tripura Resorts, sound pollution was reported after 12:45 am, and a party was being conducted without proper permission. Our teams conducted the raid as part of routine checks. Around 25 individuals were present, including nine women. Upon investigation, it was found that the gathering was a birthday party attended by Mangli’s friends and family.”

The police questioned the resort manager regarding permissions for liquor service and DJ/music systems, both of which require prior approvals from the Excise Department and Police, respectively. Since no such permissions were obtained, the police conducted drug tests on all attendees-excluding elderly individuals.

One person, identified as Damodar, tested positive for ganja consumption and will be booked under the NDPS Act.

As per the investigation, singer Mangli, as the event host, will face charges for organising a party without a liquor licence and violating sound pollution norms. The DJ operator and liquor supplier will also be booked.

Additionally, Shivaram Krishna, the General Manager of Tripura Resorts, is being held accountable for failing to ensure the necessary licences were in place.

Police said cases will be filed under relevant sections of sound pollution control laws, excise violations and the NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, Mangli, responding to the incident, said: “It was a small birthday party with my father, mother, relatives, and friends. I was unaware that permissions were required for DJ sound and liquor. The liquor served at the party was not of any international brand.

“The individual who tested positive for ganja had consumed it elsewhere, not at my party. The police did not find any illegal substances at the venue. Why would I do drugs in the presence of my own parents, fully aware of the consequences? My ambition is to remain a role model, and I urge the media to refrain from spreading misinformation.”
