In response to the recent heavy rains and subsequent flooding that disrupted power supplies in many parts of Vijayawada, the Energy Department has taken proactive measures to ensure that affected areas are not left in darkness. The department has commenced the distribution of solar lanterns to residents in these flood-stricken regions.
Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, along with Special Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, K Vijayanand, demonstrated the functionality and benefits of these solar lanterns to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The lanterns, designed to harness solar energy for illumination, can also operate on conventional power sources, providing a versatile solution for areas experiencing power outages.
On Monday, the Energy Department delivered 1,000 solar lanterns to the Vijayawada Collectorate for distribution in flood-affected areas. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed that the lanterns be distributed through ward secretariats, which will assess the needs of residents and allocate the lanterns accordingly.
An additional 4,000 solar lanterns have been procured and will soon be distributed to further assist those impacted by the floods. Dr M Kamalakar Babu, Managing Director of AP Solar Power Corporation, was also present.
