Actor Sonu Sood, who turned into a messiah for the poor during Covid-19 through his appreciable charitable work, paid a visit to the city recently. In an one-to-one interaction with Shubhraa Maheshwari, Chairperson of FLO Hyderabad Chapter, the actor shared his aspirations of setting up old age homes in the country and the many luring political offers that come his way on a regular basis.
A majority of us have put the painful pandemic memories behind us, but that’s not the case with everyone. Starting such a cause all alone was definitely not a piece of cake for the actor. However, his desire to help out the needy led him to begin the journey which encouraged others to take a part in the cause. “I was alone when we started this journey, but today many joined us and helped us. We are able to help people in such large numbers due to collaborative help,” said Sonu.
Speaking of the various activities that were carried out through his organisation, he informed, “95 percent of the people who joined us in this mission are not known to us and we never met them. But, they all came forward to help us. We got connected to 7.5 lakh people during and after the pandemic. We performed around 29 liver transplants and 45 kidney transplants.”
Talking passionately about his future plans to set up old age homes, he commented, “We are working on setting up old age homes. While we have one coming up at Shirdi, another will come up in Telangana, work on this has started in Punjab, and we are also exploring UP. Our earnest hope and desire is to see that every state will have an old age home and a free School in near future.”
One can do all he wants to stay away from politics, but the institution of politics easily finds its way into our lives.“It is true that many politicians and political parties tried their best to lure me,” quipped the founder of Sood Charity Foundation.
Clearing the air around his political entry, he clarified, “The offers were so tempting that nobody could refuse them. But, my interest is elsewhere. No doubt that I wanted to associate with a political outfit which does a great deal of service to society. But, as of now I don’t have any interest in jumping into politics. I have much more to do in my chosen film industry.”
The Samrat Prithviraj actor will be next seen in a film titled Fateh. He described the film as, ‘One man’s war against India’s hidden enemy.’The philanthropist ended the interaction by saying, “I will continue to do what I am doing till my last breath. What good wishes people can do for us, nothing else can do more.”
