Interstate spurious cotton seeds racket busted by SOT LB Nagar Zone Team and Choutuppal Police. The police seized 2.2 tons of spurious seeds all worth about Rs 70 lakhs.
The accused Gaddam Ravindra Babu, Ravi Prasanna Kumar were nabbed near Divis water plant, Choutuppal Town under the limits of Choutuppal police station while they were transporting the spurious cotton seeds from Nagpur in order to sell the same to gullible farmers.
The Police filed Cr no 285/2023 U/S Sec 420 R/W IPC, clause 3(1) of seeds (Control) order-1983, sec 7 of EC act 1955, Sec 7 and 19 of Seeds act 1966, sec 15(1) of environmental protection act -1986 of Choutuppal PS.
The accused Ravi Prasanna Kumar is a native of Mylavaram, Krishna district and since last 10 years he is a running fertilizer shop on the name of Navatha Agro Division seeds and Fertilizers Shop at Choutuppal, he came in contact with Ravindrababu who is in illegal trade of spurious seed. Then he wanted to earn easy money and decided to procure the banned BT-III cotton seeds from one GaddamRavindraBabu and sell the same to needy farmers with a promise of high yield.
GaddamRavindraBabu migrated from Palnadu District to Kuhi Village of Nagpur about 8 yrs back and doing Agriculture by taking 60 acres of land on lease, with an intention to earn huge easy money with in a short span he indulged in procuring and sale of spurious BT-III/ HT Cotton seed.
He has good knowledge that sale of BT-III/HT cotton seeds are banned by the Government of Telangana. He used to procure the Spurious Seeds from one Narasimhulu resident of Madanapalle of Chittoor District and transporting it to Kuhi (v) Nagpur, Maharashtra to divert the Agriculture and other officials and from there he is selling the same to seed traders of Telangana, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh States illegally.
