Southern states register ‘Highest Peak Demand’ in May-June: Vijayanand

Chairman of Southern Region Power Committee (SRPC) & Special Chief Secretary Energy, K Vijayanand, presiding over the 47th Southern Region Power Committee (SRPC) meeting in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, stressed the role of SRPC in ensuring the stability and smooth operation of the integrated grid, as well as efficiency in the operation of the power system within the region.

He urged all Southern states’ power utilities to collaborate on addressing common issues affecting their operational and commercial performances, seeking amicable solutions and exchanging vital knowledge and information.

The SRPC secretariat and SRLDC were highlighted as key resources for seeking necessary guidance for the integrated, secured, and reliable operations of the Southern Grid.

It was revealed during the meeting that all States in the Southern region have achieved their Highest Peak Demand and Maximum Energy met during a single day in May/June-2023.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the decision to write a letter to the Ministry of Power (MoP), recommending the implementation of an order dated December 6, 2022, which aims to collect transmission charges from the Central pool for intra-state lines carrying interstate power.

CMD / APEPDCL, PrudhviTej Immadi, presented a comprehensive overview of the Power Sector Scenario of the Andhra Pradesh State and APEPDCL during the meeting. He elaborated on the best practices implemented to enhance network reliability and technological advancements in billing and collection. The delegates were also briefed on the implementation of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme, which provides free power supply to agricultural consumers in the state, as per the directions of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The initiatives taken up in Andhra Pradesh received appreciation from the attendees.

Member-Secretary of SRPC, Asith Singh, Executive Director SRLDC, SP Kumar, Managing Director APGENCO, KVN Chakradhar Babu, CMDs of APDISCOMs, K Santosh Rao, and J Padma Janardhana Reddy, among others participated.

Top officials from SRPC, Power Utilities of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka & Puducherry, PGCIL, CTUIL, and Generating Companies such as NTPC, NLCIL, NPCIL, HNPCL, SEIL, etc., were also present.
