Superintendent of Police K Pratap Shivakishore has called upon students to play a proactive role in preventing cybercrimes by creating awareness among the public while safeguarding themselves.
The district police, in coordination with Gramdeep Trust, organised the Student Ambassador Public Safety Training Workshop here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, SP Shivakishore noted that technological advancements have led to an increase in cybercrimes. He emphasised the importance of students being responsible for educating the public about ways to protect themselves from online scams and fraudulent activities.
The SP highlighted that 80% of cybercrimes are committed through mobile phones. He cautioned students to remain vigilant against suspicious calls, messages, and email links. He advised against sharing personal information or OTPs with unknown individuals and warned against clicking on unsolicited app or message links. Victims of cybercrimes were urged to report incidents promptly at cybercrime.gov.in or by dialling 1930.
The SP encouraged students to become ambassadors for cybercrime awareness, focusing on personal, financial, and security-related issues. He also stressed the need to prevent atrocities against women and child marriages, warning of strict action against those supporting such practices.
Additionally, SP Shivakishore advised wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers and installing household surveillance cameras to curb crimes.
Gramdeep Trust convener Dr. Manohari, Bhumika agency legal advisor G. Anupama, social services representative Santharam, DSP D. Shravan Kumar, police officers, and students from various institutions attended the workshop.
