State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, inaugurated development projects worth Rs 4.53 crore on Monday. The foundation stone was also laid for projects totalling Rs 1.10 crore, including roadworks in Kasimkota, Gopalapuram, and Sampathi Puram.
During the event, Speaker Patrudu sharply criticised the governance of the past five years, labelling it as “catastrophic” and accusing the previous administration of leaving Andhra Pradesh in a debt-trap due to financial mismanagement. He lamented being constrained in voicing his concerns earlier despite being appointed as Speaker by then-Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. “I am a public leader first and foremost. As someone elected by the people, it is my duty to speak the truth,” Patrudu remarked.
He praised the efforts of former minister Konathala Ramakrishna, who secured Rs 65 crore for the constituency in just six months. Patrudu emphasised the importance of these projects amidst ongoing efforts to repay debts while prioritising welfare and infrastructure. He criticised the previous administration for neglecting basic infrastructure, highlighting the current government’s allocation of Rs 850 crore for pothole repairs and Rs 860 crore for the Sujala Sravanti irrigation project.
Calling for unity, the Speaker urged leaders with shared ideologies to work together and discouraged accepting Opposition leaders who had previously criticised or filed cases against the coalition. “We have no shortage of capable leaders within our alliance,” he asserted.
The event witnessed the participation of notable political figures, including former ministers and legislators Konathala Ramakrishna, MP CM Ramesh, TDP Anakapalli in-charge and former legislator Pila Govinda Satyanarayana, BJP district president Dwarapureddy Parameswara Rao, former MLC Buddha Naga Jagadish, and State Urban Corporation Chairman Malla Surendr
