Special Task Force teams will register cases on criminals who are selling artificial seeds to farmers, said Rachakonda Commissioner of Police DS Chauhan.
Chauhan held a special coordination meeting with the officials of the Agriculture Department on the measures to be taken to curb the supply, purchase and sale of artificial seeds in the jurisdiction of Rachakonda Commissionerate. On this occasion, the commissioner said that according to the orders of the Telangana state government, strict action will be taken against those who cheat the farmers by selling fake seeds, fertilisers and inferior pesticides.
The Commissioner said that they will provide full cooperation to the agricultural officials on behalf of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in the fight against these seed sellers.
He said that the PD Act will be registered against the sellers of fake seeds and so far PD Act has been registered against 14 people in the Rachakonda Commissionerate in the last five years for participating in activities like sale and supply of fake seeds.
He said that people should also be alert about fake seeds and inform the police. He said seed packets should be bought only after checking the authorised information and logo hologram on the seed packets. Farmers have been advised to buy only the seeds of leading companies certified by the Agriculture Department officials and to keep the bills taken from traders carefully so as not to incur losses.
Special Task Force teams have been appointed to prevent fake seeds and they have been directed to conduct raids on fake seed and fertiliser shops in coordination with the agriculture officials. The Commissioner suggested that special attention should be given to early detection of counterfeit seeds, fertilisers, substandard pesticides, primary contact from where they are being supplied.
Police officials conducted surprise raids on fertiliser shops in various police stations under Rachakonda Commissionerate and instructed the officials to conduct a thorough inspection of each shop and register cases against anyone selling fake seeds and substandard fertilisers.
