‘Adudam Andhra’ district-level competitions begin
NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao has said that sports culture leads people to a healthy lifestyle, and with that aim the State government is conducting the prestigious ‘Adudam Andhra’ event. The goal is to incorporate sports in daily life, he said.
Dilli Rao, along with Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, Joint Collector Dr P Sampath Kumar, and District Sports Development Officer (DSDO) SA Azeez, inaugurated the NTR district-level ‘Adudam Andhra’ sports festival at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector said ‘Adudam Andhra’ is being successfully conducted at the Sachivalayam, mandal, and constituency levels. Cricket, kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, and badminton are part of the sports event. The district-level winners will participate in the State-level tournament, which will take place in Visakhapatnam from February 6, he added.
He further said that the State champions in cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, and kho-kho will get Rs.5 lakh, while the runners-up and third place winners will get Rs.3 lakh and Rs.2 lakh, respectively. For badminton, the prize money is Rs.2 lakh, Rs.1 lakh and Rs.50,000 for the first three places. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy introduced the ‘Adudam Andhra, Idi Manandari Aata’ sports festival and such an event is not conducted in any other States, he added.
Mayor Bhagyalakshmi said that the State government aims to identify talented youths in sports and encourage them. The government is presenting Rs.12 crore as cash prizes to the winning teams. They will also get jobs under the sports quota, she added.
