The Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Rural Water Supply, Women and Child Welfare, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, directed district officials to begin early planning for successfully conducting the 2026 Medaram Maha Jathara.
At a review meeting held at the Collectorate on Tuesday, Seethakka asked officials to ensure no loss of life or property during the monsoon and to remain alert to natural calamities.
She said that road projects costing Rs 33 crore were underway and urged that all Jathara-related permanent infrastructure should be executed with quality. Special emphasis was laid on sanitation, v
drinking water, toilets, queue lines with shade, and preparedness in the Gadde region, where devotees gather.
Seethakka asked the police to ensure security and smooth darshan arrangements.
With the monsoon approaching, she asked village-level officers to regularly clean drains, remove invasive plants, and prepare for flash floods. She emphasised identifying low-lying areas, maintaining roads and bridges, and ensuring contingency planning for drinking water and food distribution.
The Minister called for a comprehensive action plan for vulnerable habitations and cut-off villages. She suggested pre-positioning three months’ stock of essentials and relocating people to safer places if needed.
Instructions were given to set up medical teams with essential stocks of ORS and antibiotics and to prepare fogging machines and test kits to control malaria and dengue. Every Friday is to be observed as Dry Day to prevent mosquito breeding, she said.
