The YSRCP government has decided to provide energy-efficient electric appliances, a first in the country, to each beneficiary of the Pedalandariki Illu scheme. The government will distribute four LED bulbs, two LED tube lights and two energy-efficiency fans each to the beneficiaries. Pedalandariki Illu, YSR Congress government’s flagship mega housing programme, by offering energy-efficient electric appliances, will turn the houses into eco-friendly energy savers helping residents save 734 units of energy per house per annum.

During a meeting between EESL and the AP Housing Department officials on energy efficiency housing, Special Chief Secretary of Housing Department Ajay Jain has requested EESL to supply energy-efficient appliances like LED bulbs, LED tube lights and fans at cost-effective rates lower than market prices that would be facilitated to the beneficiaries of houses being constructed under Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu scheme.

Ajay Jain said it was the first-of-its-kind scheme to facilitate a huge number of LED lights to the beneficiaries of mega housing scheme. He also said that Andhra Pradesh was setting an example to the entire country by constructing YSR Jagananna colonies, providing the best social infrastructure. He also said that Andhra Pradesh would be the first State in the country, which was going to build lakhs of houses with modern technology to improve energy efficiency that would help considerably reduce temperature and substantial energy consumption apart from reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Ajay Jain said it was expected to save around 734 units of energy per house per annum by using LED bulbs, tube lights and EE fans. He said, “It is estimated that around Rs.352 crore per annum could be saved by using energy-efficient appliances in 15.6 lakh houses that are being constructed under phase-1 of housing scheme. EESL officials indicated that 50, 60 and 90 percent energy savings could be achieved by using energy-efficient fans, LED tube lights and LED bulbs, respectively, when compared to conventional appliances.”

Ajay Jain said, “Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is determined to give the right to beneficiaries to live with dignity, and wishes to provide not just a shelter to the poor but a safe, decent and affordable place to live that make a real difference in the life of a family. Under the Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu programme, out of the total sanction of 21.25 lakh houses, around 20.32 lakhs (96 per cent) were grounded so far.  The government has spent an amount of Rs. 842 crore in this financial year towards material components like cement, steel, sand etc. and payment to the beneficiaries.”

CEO of EESL Vishal Kapoor has deputed a two-member team comprising Animesh Mishra, Head PR & Sales, and Nitin Bhatt, DGM PR & Sales, who have talked to Ajay Jain, APSHCL Managing Director Lakshmi Sha and other senior officials of Housing Department on the largest energy efficiency housing programme of Andhra Pradesh.
