Minister for Excise and Tourism Jupally Krishna Rao said that the government was taking steps to establish a star hotel through a public-private partnership in the areas surrounding Nagarjuna Sagar and Buddhavanam, along with initiatives to promote water sports. On Friday, he visited the Buddhavanam region near Nagarjuna Sagar in Nalgonda district, accompanied by Kamlesh D Patel (Daaji), the founder-president of the Shri Ram Chandra Mission.
Initially, the Minister reviewed the layouts of Buddhavanam and Vijay Vihar, which span a total of 270 acres. Managing Director of the State Tourism Development Corporation Prakash Reddy, and Buddhavanam Consultant Sivanagi Reddy briefed the Minister and Daaji about the highlights of the Buddhavanam project.
The Minister emphasised that many Buddhists from various Asian countries, particularly from Sri Lanka and other regions, visit Nagarjuna Sagar and Buddhavanam. He noted that by providing essential amenities and facilities, it could attract even more international visitors. During his visit, the Minister inquired about the availability of land in and around Vijay Vihar and the surrounding areas of Nagarjuna Sagar. He directed Miryalaguda Sub-Collector Narayan Amit to conduct a survey of the available government land and submit a detailed report.
Speaking with the media at the local MLA K. Jayaveer’s camp office, the Minister mentioned that the Tourism Department is actively working to promote Nagarjuna Sagar as a tourist destination. The minister also mentioned plans for constructing cottages accessible to people from all walks of life, aiming to fully develop tourism in Nagarjuna Sagar and its surrounding constituency.
Earlier, local MLA K Jayaveer commented that Nagarjuna Sagar has great potential for tourism development given its proximity to the Krishna River, scenic hills, and the surrounding landscape, making it an ideal area for promoting tourism, especially around Buddhavanam.
