Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Sunday announced that measures were being taken to prioritise the development of new colonies and villages merged with Khammam City.
On Sunday, he laid the foundation stone for cement concrete road construction in the 16th division here. The Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation provided Rs 1.95 crore for the works.
Speaking on the occasion, Nageswara Rao emphasised that funds are being allocated for the development of basic facilities in newly established colonies and villages merged with the Khammam Municipal Corporation.
He pointed out that residents are facing issues like mosquito menace and water stagnation in vacant lands. He instructed the Municipal Commissioner to talk to landowners to tackle the problem. If the landowners failed to respond, he asked the Commissioner to issue notices to them.
He mentioned that officials and public representatives need to work to ensure justice for the people who reposed trust in them. He acknowledged that some flood victims had not yet received compensation, and he assured them that a survey would be conducted to provide assistance to all the eligible families.
He criticised the previous government for neglecting farmers’ welfare for 10 years and mentioned. He highlighted the current government’s commitment to financial discipline, stating that they are now providing loan waiver benefits to farmers.
He announced that Indiramma houses would be allocated to the poor from Diwali and said that the government had spent nearly Rs 50,000 crores on farmers in the first year of their administration. He asserted that previous governments had not invested any funds for farmers’ welfare.
Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Augustya stated that the cement concrete road construction works for which the foundation stone was laid on Sunday would be completed on schedule. He mentioned that the work order had been issued, and the construction would begin within two days. He also noted that flood compensation had been provided to about 1,500 families in Division 16, and the remaining families would receive assistance within a week. The event was attended by State Warehousing Corporation Chairman Rayala Nageswara Rao, RDO G. Ganesh, Division 16 Corporator Medarapu Venkateshwarlu, municipal corporation corporators, public representatives, and relevant officials.
