Mayor Kavati Siva Manohar Naidu laid the foundation stone for the construction of a gas-based incinerator in the Hindu crematorium at Srinivasaraopet here on Sunday.
The gas-based incinerator is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore for which the Mayor along with MLA M Giridhar laid the foundation stone.
Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that the municipal corporation is developing crematoriums in the city and an action plan was formulated for the same. The crematorium located at Srinivasa Rao Pet is being used by the residents of 9 divisions.
The Srinivasaraopet crematorium is being developed at a cost of Rs 5.75 crore and as part of that a gas based incinerator is being constructed at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore. Henceforth, the residents of the divisions could perform the ritual rites at the crematorium. Importance was given to greenery in the crematorium.
The ritual rites of the relatives of departed could be performed by staying in the crematorium itself for a couple of days. Room for preserving ashes was also constructed. Pleasant environment is being developed in the crematorium, the mayor said.
Besides a gas based incinerator, bodies could be cremated using firewood as per the traditions. Mortal remains could be preserved in the ice mortuary in the crematorium, he stated. Engineers, officials and corporators were among those who accompanied the mayor.
