Students, affiliated to the All India Students Federation (AISF) staged a dharna here on Tuesday demanding that the government enhance the mess and cosmetic charges to the students staying in social welfare hostels.

In response to the call given by the AISF state unit, the students staged a darna and raised slogans demanding the government hike their mess charges, cosmetic charges. Later they submitted a representation to the Joint Collector.

Speaking on the occasion, AISF former national general secretary G Eeshwaraiah said that the government is paying meager money as mess charges and cosmetic charges. He demanded that Rs 3000 should be paid as mess charges and quality rice should be supplied to the social welfare hostels. He recalled that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had assured to hike the mess and cosmetic charges of social welfare students when he was the Opposition leader.

AISF district secretary Lakshma Reddy said that the government has not made any mess and cosmetic charges for three months. Though the essential commodities have skyrocketed the government has not hiked charges, he lamented.

Jagan Mohan Reddy also assured to set up an RO plant in every social welfare hostel but did not do anything in that direction. CCTV cameras should be installed in women hostels and security should also be provided, he demanded the government.
