The School of Planning and Architecture Vijayawada, an Institute of National Importance set up by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, held its Sixth Convocation ceremony in which 430 Graduating students received their degrees. In the Convocation address, the Chief Guest, Prof Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat (Member, NITI Ayog and Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University) congratulated all the graduates and greeted the faculty who worked hard in shaping the minds of students.
Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat advised students to be transformation leaders and succeed in life as problem solvers by being creative, curious, and enthusiastic with honesty and integrity. He stressed the need for a knowledge economy, sustainable practices, energy security, and climate change. He also mentioned architecture 4.0 which is a new manifestation of contemporary technology and how it is coping with industry 4.0.
The Chairperson of the Board of Governors of SPA Vijayawada, Prof Dr Virendra Kumar Paul, congratulated all students who have received their degrees. He said that students should concentrate on the knowledge system and inspiration of scientific temperament to validate research experimentations. He stressed the need for an interdisciplinary approach in planning and designing the built environment. He asked students to impart good skills in information technology and emerging tools like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and machine learning in this field.
Director of the SPAV Prof Dr Ramesh Srikonda also mentioned that SPAV is committed to contributing to the country’s progress in the field of planning and architecture. He presented a detailed Institute Report of all the key achievements of SPAV for the last two academic years and congratulated the graduates. He explained that the recent collaborations between SPAV and foreign universities in France, Italy, Australia, Norway, Austria, Singapore, and UN Habitat helped the students to acquire universal skills. He also mentioned the various awards and recognitions that the students have won in the last two academic years.
In this convocation, ten graduands received Gold Medals for 2022 and nine graduands received Gold Medals for the year 2021 for academic excellence.
18 Best Thesis Awards were conferred to students of UG and PG in the fields of Planning and Architecture.
