Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials apprehended Banoth Surender Naik, Sub-Registrar of Suryapet, along with two document writers, Kalluri Srinivas and Thangella Venkata Reddy, on Monday for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 99,200.
The incident occurred when the accused officer, Banoth Surender Naik, demanded  bribe through Kalluri Srinivas  and Thangella Venkata Reddy  from the complainant, M Venkateswarlu, a resident of Venkateswara Colony, Suryapet town.
The bribe was demanded to facilitate the registration of an open plot measuring 1080 square yards in the name of the complainant’s daughter,. Meka Manasa, as a gift deed, and an additional 160 square yards in the name of Medipally Ravi Raju as a sale deed.  The tainted bribe amount was recovered from Srinivas’ possession, and both Srinvias’ and Venkat Reddy’s fingers, which came into contact with the bribe, tested positive in a chemical test. Banoth Surender Naik was found to have performed his duty improperly and dishonestly to gain undue advantage. It is notable that this is not the first instance of misconduct by the officer; he was previously trapped by ACB officials in 2007 and 2018. Consequently, all the three  have been arrested and produced before the Ist Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases Court at Nampally in Hyderabad.
The case is currently under investigation. The public is reminded to report any demands for bribes by public servants to the ACB’s toll-free number 1064 for prompt legal action.
