In a significant development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended the Sub-Registrar of Anantapur town in Anantapur district for accepting a bribe of Rs 1.30 lakh.

Acting on a complaint received through the ACB 14400 call centre and ACB app, the officers, under the direction of AP DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy, caught the Sub-Registrar red-handed on Thursday.

The complainant, Ram Mohan of Anantapur town, lodged a formal complaint with the ACB against Satyanarayana Murthy, the Sub-Registrar of Anantapur town.

According to the complaint, Murthy had demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from Ram Mohan to register a lodge under a gift deed following the demise of his brother. However, after negotiation, the Sub-Registrar agreed to accept Rs 1.30 lakh as a bribe to facilitate the registration process. Disturbed by the situation, Ram Mohan promptly reported the matter to the ACB officials.

Taking swift action, the ACB officials apprehended Satyanarayana Murthy, the Sub-Registrar of Anantapur Town, along with a document writer and a private individual, while they were in the act of accepting the bribe of Rs 1.30 lakh from Ram Mohan. Subsequently, the ACB officials presented the Sub-Registrar and the other two individuals before the ACB special court.
A case has been registered in this regard, and further investigation is underway.
