Surekha prays to tribal deities for welfare of people

Minister of Endowments Konda Surekha on Wednesday offered prayers to tribal deities Sammkka and Sarakka at Medaram along with her family members. She got her grandson tonsured and offered prayers with bangaram (jaggery) seeking the blessings of the goddesses.
During her visit to the Sammakka Saralamma tribal deities in Mulugu district’s Tadwai mandal, she expressed her gratitude and made offerings.
The annual festival honouring the tribal deities Sammakka and Saralamma is celebrated grandly every two years, attracting millions of devotees who come to fulfil their vows. She highlighted the uniqueness of the festival.
Minister Surekha rued a lack of support from the Central government in declaring Medaram Jatara as a national festival. She recalled many developmental initiatives undertaken during the YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime and promised to improve facilities due to the increasing number of devotees visiting the jatara.
Her grandson Srihans made offerings of hair and gold to the goddesses during their visit. The Minister prayed for the welfare of the people.
With a strong resolve to implement various developmental programmes in Telangana, the Congress party is committed to strengthening the economy.
She said that under the guidance of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, the government would push forward with the development of the State. She pledged to develop temples in the State.
