Suryapet district SHGs first in producing school uniforms

Suryapeta district stood first in producing school uniform to the students of government schools.  
During this academic year, the State government has decided to entrust the responsibility of producing school uniform to Self-help Groups (SHGs).
There are 17,474 SHGs in Suryapet district and 1,81,636 members.  In this, 1,212 members who received sewing training were selected for school dress stitching.  For this, the government will pay Rs 50 per pair as stitching charge. With this government decision, the stitching job not only provided employment to the SHG members but also enable the administration to ensure uniform to students at the beginning of the academic year.  
 The women members who have been facing difficulties due to lack of employment opportunities for the past few months are expressing happiness over the government’s decision.  There are 950 government schools, KGBV, model schools in the district.  About 43,245 students are studying in those schools.  About 86,490 pairs of school dress are being stitched for them at the rate of two pairs each.
The first installment, a pair of dresses will be handed over to the respective schools by June 6, the officials said.
Meanwhile, an SHG member N Kumari from Suryapet mandal said that they had lost their jobs due to the arrival of ready-made dresses in the market. The SHG members appealed to the government not to buy readymade dress in the market.
