The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programmes will be held in West Godavari district from September 17 to October 1.
Disclosing this here on Monday, West Godavari district Collector Chadalavada Nagarani said that to mark the Gandhi Jayanthi, the Swachhata Hi Seva programmes would be organised from September 17 to October 1 and October 2 would be celebrated as ‘Swaccha Diwas’.  
The Collector said that the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ service programmes are being organised under the slogan ‘Swabhav Swachhata-Sanskar Swachhata’ in the district. As part of the Swachata Hi service programmes, the opening ceremony would be held on September 17 and many programs would be organized from September 18 to October 1. As part of ‘Swachtahi Bhagidari’, planting of a sapling in the name of mother, awareness programmes on local sanitation programs will be organized under the auspices of MEPMA, DWCRA and Swachhand organisations.
Collector Nagarani said that awareness would be created on electricity and water saving, prevention of plastic, chlorination of drinking water and leading a healthy life. She said that cultural programmes, setting up selfie points in the village and at parks, painting solid waste buildings, taking cleanliness pledges in all educational institutions, organising competitions in the wards, rallies, formation of human chain would be organised on the day.
“A workshop will be organized by experts for school students on making useful items from plastic waste and making environmentally friendly items. An exhibition of the items made by the students will also be organized on Gandhi Jayanti Day and cash prizes will be given to those who make attractive items,” the Collector stated.
She said that as part of the Swachhta Lakshit-Swachhta program, bleaching would be taken up at places where there is water stagnation. The solid wastes would be removed, and parks, drainage, roads, educational institutions, and commercial complexes would be cleaned, she said, adding that beautification of public places will be organized.
The officials were instructed to ensure that the programs would be held in three types in all mandal centres, municipalities and within the constituency. The public representatives of the areas should also participate, the Collector told the officials.
